About Dr. Daniel I. Palant:
Daniel I. Palant was an early supporter of STEP and remained a steadfast advocate for the program's mission. Dr. Palant resided and practiced pediatric medicine in Lexington, MA. Known fondly as "Dr. Dan," his life was built around caring for children. Dr. Dan not only dedicated himself to his practice, but also was also active in and supported the Boy Scouts of America, the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, Project STEP, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.

Dr. Daniel I Palant passed away this past August. He is the beloved husband of Barbara (Waldman) Palant, father of William Palant and partner Beom Hee Lee of Seoul, Korea, Stefanie and husband Thomas Sinks of Michigan, and Jonathan Palant and husband Mark Mullaney and "proud papa" of their children Noah and Caroline of Texas. Project STEP (String Training Education Program) is a long-term, non-profit classical string training organization for Black and Latino students. We envision a world in which the classical music profession reflects the racial and ethnic diversity of our communities.

Project STEP recognizes that certain racial and ethnic minorities are vastly underrepresented in classical music.

Our mission is to address this imbalance by identifying musically talented children from underrepresented Boston and surrounding communities, providing them with comprehensive music and string instrument instruction. We set the highest standards for our students, provide mentoring and performance opportunities, and create a network of support for our students, their families, and their communities. Learn more at ProjectSTEP.org
